What does Episcopal mean?

Loving, Liberating, and Life-giving.

St. Mary's is a parish of The Episcopal Diocese of Michigan, a member of The Episcopal Church. With its roots in the Church of England and the Scottish Episcopal Church, The Episcopal Church is a part of the worldwide Anglican Communion.

The Episcopal Church welcomes all who worship Jesus Christ and comprises 106 dioceses and one mission area across 22 countries or territories. The mission of the church, as stated in the Book of Common Prayer’s catechism, is “to restore all people to unity with God and each other in Christ.” In step with that mission, The Episcopal Church follows Jesus into loving, liberating, and life-giving relationships with God, with each other, and with the earth.

The Episcopal Diocese of Michigan is an open, affirming and welcoming body of Christ. We are grounded in our commitment to both embrace our neighbors with the unconditional love of Christ, and to uphold and maintain our histories and traditions. No matter who you are, there is a sacred place for you in this diocese.
